Complete Bed Bug Identification Guide

Identification should be based on physical evidence, not fear. Photos, samples, live bugs, shed skins, spotting, and inspection findings matter.

Evidence Position

Bites alone are not reliable proof.

CDC DPDx notes that inflammatory reactions to bites are not diagnostic by themselves. EcoForce uses photo review, samples, inspection findings, and physical evidence to guide next steps.

Text photos before moving items

EcoForce encourages customers to text clear photos to 615-622-4422 before hauling bedding, furniture, or luggage through the home.

Physical evidence matters

Live bugs, nymphs, cast skins, eggs, spotting, and collected samples are stronger indicators than skin reactions alone.

Location matters

Evidence near sleeping or resting areas usually carries more weight than a random bug found far from where people rest.

Visual Evidence

What to photograph

Take clear photos of the bug from above, the underside if possible, and where it was found. Add a size reference such as a coin or fingertip when safe.

Photograph stains, shed skins, mattress seams, bed frames, couches, recliners, luggage, and any repeated evidence area.

Bites

Why bite patterns can mislead people

Bed bug bites affect people differently and may appear late. Some people do not show obvious marks at all.

EcoForce does not recommend treatment based only on bite claims without supporting evidence.

Next Step

When to call or text EcoForce

Call or text if you find live bugs, repeated spotting, shed skins, eggs, suspicious activity near sleeping areas, or evidence after travel or guest stays.

If the photo is not bed bugs, good. If it is, the next step can happen faster.
